SAL Ukraine and Chicago-Kent Law Students Meet U.S. Appellate Judge Timothy Tymkovych in Chicago

In December law students of the SAL Ukraine program studying at Chicago-Kent College of Law met with the Honorable Timothy Tymkovych, a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

The meeting took place during a professional networking brunch organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association (UABA) in collaboration with Chicago-Kent College of Law and the Center of American Law in Ukraine.

The event brought together 63 participants, 37 Ukrainian Law students participating in the SAL Ukraine program and currently pursuing their LL.M degrees at Chicago-Kent College of Law, along with Ukrainian American attorneys practicing in the United States who are also SAL Ukraine program graduates.

The highlight of the event was an address by Judge Timothy Tymkovych, a sitting judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and a designated judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review (FISA). A third-generation Ukrainian American and a long-time UABA member, Judge Tymkovych shared insights from his judicial career, discussed his long-standing engagement with Ukraine's judiciary, and responded to students' questions about legal careers and professional ethics.

The discussion also covered topics such as professional development, integration of Ukrainian lawyers into the U.S. legal system, and the role of judicial independence and ethical standards.

Adam Weber, associate Dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law International Programs, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of the SAL Ukraine program as a sustainable platform for academic and professional cooperation between the United States and Ukraine.

Since 2011, the Center of American Law in Ukraine, in partnership with Chicago-Kent College of Law, has been implementing the SAL Ukraine program to support Ukrainian lawyers through advanced legal education and global professional integration.
